Praying Hands

From CHF 250.00

The “prayer plants” are named after a peculiarity: At nightfall, they fold their leaves in an upright position as if praying for evening vespers. With the first light of day, the leaves open again, filling us with a soft, soothing rustle. There are over 50 different species of prayer plants native to the Brazilian rainforest. The plant has many uses; the Arawak people of South America, for example, used the strength of the plant’s rhizome to drain poison from wounds. But it’s not just its biological qualities that make it so unique – its leaves are a lovely sight, looking like patterns drawn by hand. Each leaf is unique, which also makes them very popular as houseplants.
