VALUE OF BIOPHILIC DESIGN
An environment with natural elements has a positive effect on the health and well-being of people. The concept of “Biophilic Design” is dedicated to this.
Through our different experiences in Asia and Europe we have realized that the relationship between the artificial world we live in and nature is disturbed. Nowadays not everyone has the opportunity to spend time in nature on a regular basis. However, everyone has an innate, biologically determined human need for contact with nature. To discover, perceive and observe nature from close up is an experience from which we can draw all our strength. Surrounded by nature we are healthier, feel better and are even more productive. This well-being, aesthetic stimulation and calmness is what we want to make available to people through nature in their everyday lives. Through “Biophilic Design” we bring the beauty of nature into the rooms in which we live and work.

DRAW PEACE AND STRENGTH
Bienvenue Studios turns nature into visual culture. We translate natural structures into handmade, graphical editions. As graphic designers, we tackle the visual appearance of nature that has not gotten much attention thus far. First, we look at how it came about and what it means culturally. In a second step, we turn the results of our research into a narrative visual form. Egyptian talismans are put in focus as much as the beak’s shape of the Galapagos finches, morbid aesthetic in China or stone gardens in Japan.
For example, we came across stones on the beach of Bolinas (Bay Area, California), that feature remarkably perfect cavities, as if a jeweller had spent hours drilling them. We learned that the rocks have been perforated by invertebrates, such as mussels. In an early development phase, they bore holes into stones and grow up in them. We have noticed how light and fragile the rocks are. That lightness has inspired us in our graphical interpretation. We documented the stones and graphically staged them in a way to appear as if they were floating over the paper. Along with the prints, we provide the results of our research.
Even though we handle various topics and apply different methods, the results always make the same impression: we would describe it as calm, poetic and lightly surreal. We are interested in what surprises us and investigate those phenomena as designers. Nature is full of surprising phenomena. But many people do not always have the readiness or time to be surprised. We want to bring more visibility to what surprises us using graphic methods. Our work is available in art books, notebooks, cards and as prints in limited edition.

TWO VIEWS, ONE VISION
We have been working together for over ten years. In our projects we allow the perspectives of our countries of origin, China and Switzerland, to merge. This leads to exciting discussions and unusual ideas. Our designs reflect our two diverse cultures.
NATURE-ORIENTED DESIGN PROCESS
In our design concepts we incorporate local elements from nature, which create a reference to the location or environment of the respective customer. We pay attention to a natural look and feel and work with sustainable resources.
SERIES
We develop our design products as series. To us, serial thinking means to conceive your appearance in a future-oriented way so that we can take your development and the resulting needs into account. Your appearance gets a recognition effect through the early further thinking of future campaigns.
